How It All Began
Zig’s Organic Dog Treats was born from the joy of being able to re-home a beautiful rescue pup, we named Ziggy.
Our Inspiration all started after taking in our excitable Rescue, a Kelpie/Labrador cross nicknamed Zig. He started his life with another family during the tough lockdowns in Australia & then joined our family when he was 7 months old.
This rambunctious young boy needed a loving devoted home to take him in. We quickly learned Ziggy is a major “Foodie” - that’s the Lab side. The other half is the Kelpie side, displaying endless energy that needed to be fuelled by healthy, non- fattening, foods.
His devotion to treats and his desire to please and be rewarded has inspired a homemade, affordable and organic brand that’s not only a healthier option than what we could find on the shelves but packed with flavour and homemade charm.
We quickly got to work in the kitchen to keep up with not only Ziggy’s obsessive treat tendencies but for friends and family’s pets as well. After the demand for Zig’s Organic Treats from friends and family skyrocketed, we knew we were on to something. Every pup- from the picky or fussy eaters, to all ages and breeds, looked up to their owners asking “MORE?!” Our many friends and family’s furry friends kept us busy developing recipes, and supplying treats to their loved pets, so we decided to expand and share Zig’s Organics with others.
Test kitchen days were hilarious. Followed by frantic pups smelling treats in the ovens, performing tricks and behavioural tasks even without commands. We watched pups roll over, shake a paw, sit, lay down and sit again and again hoping for a reward. These much loved “test kitchen pups “definitely fell on their feet, and we are grateful for their input. They confirmed what we hoped was a great idea. These pups helped us chose the ingredients, pick which recipes were the ones to focus on and kept us amused, motivated and refining our products.
Zig’s Organic Treats are hand crafted locally in Victoria by Dog-Loving females who want to see the joy in other pups’ faces when they have an exciting new treat to try.
